The town is located in a mountainous region; the highest elevation human settlement in Ghana offers picturesque and panoramic views of the countryside neighbourng villages and the Volta Lake. It has a serene atmosphere with refreshing climate, which is the main attraction to the area. The town has historical relics of German colonization of more than a century ago, notably the steel cross on Mount Gemi and a lodge. Besides a visit to the cool mountain visitors can make a guided tour to a beautiful waterfall, which is however a challenging hike. Longer hikes in the Avatime area to surrounding towns via scenic bush paths are also possible. In Amedzofe visitors can do a home stay or stay at the district guesthouse.
